THE GOOD: - simple, yet addictive - countless number of strategies - scrimming with 4 other friends
THE BAD: -limitations of the HL1 engine -the multiplayer scene is often viewed as pretty immature (just read some of the gotfrag forums)
SUMMARY: This is the true definition of gameplay over flashy graphics. Many awesome looking games have come out over the years, but CS has outlasted all of them and it came out in 1999(i think). Even with its simple looking graphics compared to today's standards, this is one of the best online shooters ever. If you want, you can even join leagues with your clan such as CAL or UGS. Scrims are incredibly enjoyable and will keep you playing for a good while.
THE GOOD: The simplicity. The variety of maps. The weapons.
THE BAD: Cheaters. The graphics are kinda outdated.
SUMMARY: If you haven't heard about Counter-Strike, you've probably been in outer-space. Counter-Strike is a very, very, very popular mod of the award winning PC game, Half-Life. It's multiplayer only, but that doesn't take away any of the fun factor. There's two sides to every battle. Counter-Terrorists do numerous things, like rescue hostages, defuse bombs, etc. Terrorists are the opposing force, and try to screw up life for everybody. The selection of weapons are amazing. The only thing you have to watch out for are cheaters! And, since this game came out in 1999, the graphics are a little bit out-dated. That doesn't mean anything, though. If you have a computer and broadband, you should be playing this game instead of reading this review. Yeah, that's how good it is.
THE GOOD: So popular, so great, lovely multiplayer on the net and on LAN.
THE BAD: Cheaters! those *******!
SUMMARY: I love this game. I found it through a club in my school, a games club run by the head of D.T. Who now can't do it because he got promoted. Anyway this game is great for playing with friends if you have a couple of PCs or laptops. This game is so popular it is loved around the world. If you are thoinking of buying Half-Life get a pack with Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Opposing force and blue shift they are all great games. There are bots that you can download my opinion is Pod Bots because you can download waypoints for maps. You can download and maps for Counter-Strike and waypoints for these maps aswell. I give this game two thumbs way up for it's great multiplayer but the cheaters on the net beware of.
THE GOOD: great gameplay (apart from lag if u av a slow connection) can keep you on all night its free if you have Half Life Quite easy to join a clan and make friends SO FUN
THE BAD: slightly dated graphics cheaters and hacking scum
SUMMARY: I docked it 0.1 mark simply because of the volume of cheaters in virtually all of the servers. But it isnt the games fault as it is quite unstoppable. Howver hours of fun can be had in the most popular online game in the world. You can download the game off of steam if you already have half life, this makes it very easy to get. the graphics are dated but show me a game using a 1998 engine that looks better and is still this poular??? A good internet connection is needed nowadays as 56k below seems to lag endlessly. the maps are great to play on and the action gets ur heart a pumpin'
THE GOOD: You might find CS so addictive, you might wanna spend the rest of your mortal days challenging other hopefulls. Which, in this case is better than good.
Being so old now, you'd expect players to be tired of the game being tired, but it isn't.
The sound is great too, playing with headphones, and volume at full blast, may make your ears pop. The gunfire, the moans and groans of the dead, and general water-splashing and ladder tapping is still impressive for a 5-6 year old modification.
Oh yeah, the thousands of servers are just phenomanal, really.
THE BAD: The graphics are sub-par, but what do you expect for an old MOD? You can't have it all. This is the Space Invaders of modificitions. Despite that, the guns are modelled nicely, but the blood looks like big chunks of frozen Tomato Ketchup flying through the air...
Another shame is, there are constantly new updates, which, with a 56k modem, (or below) these...
THE GOOD: The names of the guns are what they should be.

THE BAD: The damage that the guns do. I mean seriously i dont know one person that can take 9 bullets. I mena the TMP, you firea whole clip into someone and 30 bullets just about rounds up to 1 point of damage!
SUMMARY: First off just shut the hell up all of you! My God you know nothing! Who cares about graphics, it is game play that matters not the graphic detail. If you complain about the graphics of any game you should be shot and killed or at least never allowed to play another computer. For that matter another game in your life! If you want ot play a game with good graphics wait for Half-Life 2 to come out or Counter Strike 2, wait why do i even say that you will probly complain about those too.
THE GOOD: 1. Weapons - It has the best real life weapons for example, Ak-47, The M4A1 Carbine, Steyr AUG, MP4 Navy, Grenades, Flashbangs, C4's etc. 2. Teams - There are two teams the Police (CT) And the terrorists (T)both have battles against each other. 3. Maps - There are hundreds of maps for CS each one of them having there own flavour. Some of the best maps I recomend are: cs_mansion, de_aztec, de_dust, cs_bloodstrike, fy_poolday 4. Multiplayer 5. Addictiveness
THE BAD: 1. Graphics - Graphics are good but not excellent, still I consider this as a weak point. 2. Hackers - A lot hacking can be going on at times which can be frustrating. 3. AWM campers (snipers) - The part which I mostly hate, I hate the AWM snipers, they just hide around and as soon as a person appears the shoot and your dead meat
SUMMARY: Everything is good in Counterstrike especially the multiplayer option. You can play this game in internet...

As people are more experienced the game should be too. It didnt take me that long to understand the controls and everything but now I get it and thats all.

THE GOOD: Thousands of PC gamers online at all times, one of the largest online gaming games. Free to download and very addiciting and fun
THE BAD: Graphics aren't the best, but they certainally aren't bad. Also its slower on 56K connections.
SUMMARY: For sure one of the best Half-Life Mods out there. Although this is not just a mod, its a amazing game. Thousands and thousands of players play this game daily so you will never have a problem finding peoeple/severs to play on.
Good graphics, fun overall, and a very addiciting online FPS.
If you have cable and like online FPS, get it. And if you have half-life just simply go online and download the game. If not then by the stand alone verision of it.

I thought I'd skip the goods and the bads because this game obviously transcends these rankings presently. Counterstrike is immensely popular for a reason. Quite frankly, it's probably the easiest FPS for multiplayer I have ever experienced. The fact that it was created a few years ago magnifies that feat.
That being said, Counterstrike's age may also be its weakness. The graphics are sub-par at best by today's standards, and with most of the people you'll come across having a couple of years of experience under their belt, the learning curve is enormous.
The brunt of Counterstrike's fun is the ability to play as a terrorist and counterterrorist, which gives the game a more personal feel. With new maps and sprites downloadable, the customization possiblities are endless for this game, as are the other mods that come with certain copies of Counterstrike.
