Starting up my new computer AND...
|
Error
But yeah anyway, basically I boot up the computer, and get the short single beep from the motherboard, then I get a screen with loads of info relating to lots of things I don't understand (I presume this is the POST, but I'm not 100% sure), but at the bottom I get a message saying:
Then if I press enter it'll just say the same thing. All I'm wondering is if this means that I've incorrectly installed the hard drive, DVD drive or both? Or perhaps neither? ------------------- Shortest straw

Looks like your OS CD is not being read by the DVD rom. you might need to get a replacement.

If you just built the computer, then most likely you need to go into the BIOS and change the boot order. Make your optical disk first, then hard drive second. Right now it sounds like its trying to boot straight from the hard drive and not a disk.

Attempt to go into BIOS, as already said and change the boot order so that Hard Disc is higher priority than the Optical Drive, or vise versa if that's already the case.
If that doesn't work, check to make sure your Hard Drive is properly hooked-up. Don't be afraid to push hard on the cables to double-check. Sometimes these problems can occur because something you installed is just so slightly not properly inserted. I had a problem that boggled by mind when building my computer, and tried so many different things to fix it, until I realized that the video card was out of socket by half of a millimetre. Every pin on every component needs to be fully inserted to operate properly. If the problem persists I may predict Hard Drive failure, although unlikely as the computer is new.

First off thanks for the replies everyone.
I haven't actually got an OS either on disc or on the hard drive, so that's probably something to do with it. Atm I'm downloading the Windows 7 RC on my old PC, so if I was to put my new hard drive in there, put the Windows 7 RC stuff on that hard drive and then put the new hard drive back into my new PC, would my new PC boot up Windows 7 RC straight off? Or is there something else I have to do besides change the booting order. ------------------- Shortest straw

Yeah, not having any type of OS to boot from (HDD or disk) will give you that error...
When Windows 7 is done downloading, you will need to burn it to a DVD, then have your computer boot from the DVD and then install windows 7. ------------------- ![]()

It would be easiest to just burn it onto a DVD and install it from that. It might be possible to put it on a hard drive and install it from there, but I have no idea how hard that would be to set up and do.
