I have just completed COD4 and I am getting fed up of its online. Is UT3 worth buying? Are your characters and weapons customisable?

I finished UT3 within 2 nights and I was tempted to just leave it halfway unfinished. Offline is shit and Online is nothing special either.
Don't bother with it.

Is it similar to any other shooters out there?

The only game you could really compare it to is Quake. It's just a fast paced, hardcore, sci-fi FPS. This is not the kind of game you have to worry about lame-ass campers. If someone wants to kill you, they're gonna have to be better than you. You don't get any free kills (unless you're packing a Redeemer, then you might. This game has all the bases covered. You want that hardcore experience I described, you got it. But there are also some strategic elements in Warfare and CTF, if you desire strategy. But if you don't, that's OK too cuz you can play those modes "balls out" if you want too. There are also other custom game modes that people have created as well, like mutant, and stealth arena, and Sniper Arena.....there are others. One of my ne favorites is All Over DM, which obviously allows you to play DM on any of the other modes maps. We already have well over 100 PS3 mods for UT3 on ut3mod.com, and that's not even all of them. So you can imagine how infinite the replayablity is. Truely an amazing game, and has become my favorite FPS. Due alot to how cool the mods are, but also cuz it's one of the few FPS game (well it 3rd person too with mods) that campers don't reign supreme. It's also the only online FPS game I've ever played that I don't get upset at all when I get killed repeatedly online, cuz I know that guy killed me cuz he's better, not cuz he's camping free kills off me. If that stuff sound good, get it, you won't regret it if you are willing to DL some essential mods. If you prefer the "campy" type shooters like Socom, you probably won't like UT3 so much. Picture Halo 2 or 3, just faster and better, and you're about half-way to UT3.

I have the game now and i think it is a definate must buy. It runs quite smoothly but the node capture modes can get a little confusing at times.

Yea, Warfare can be very confusing at first. After you learn the maps, and how to play the mode, it's pretty fun. It's frustrating tho, playing with bots, cuz your team is so stupid, and the enemy always seems to know exactly what to do. If you have a dumb AI team, you should just work on the main nodes, and forget the optional ones, and leave them for your stupid AI team mates, if they want to get them. Turning up the difficulty makes a big difference in your teams skill, but the enemy gets too good in my opinion. If you can find a full Warfare game online, that's good fun. Also, if some of the stock maps are too confusing (which some of them are), there are some custom Warfare maps that are simply laid out, which makes them alot more fun IMO. Anyway, glad you like the game. I would've felt bad if you hated it.

Between the time line of Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament 2000 being released and Unreal Tournament III's release. I haven't found any other game to satisfy my need for rivalry combat until now.

Mnmfan may find it shit and may have finished it within 2 nights but the game does offer quite a few things.

Firstly, you have campaign...basically just a story molded around the "game types" and "maps" available. It can get repetitive but the length of the game depends on your style of play and the level you play it at. I'm more of a sniper so I try and find the best cover/hiding spots and aim for headshots.

CTF on Omnicron dawn is where I am best at if the AI or human players don't know where I am, I just wait until someone steals the flag and snipe them.

Secondly, you have instant action. Throw yourself into a game with the bots, add mutators to either make yourself equal or to handicap yourself to make it a challenge.

Thirdly, multiplayer. Best that you get used to the game and maps first but it is fast paced and just standing around for a second can mean death. It is also better if you know someone of equal skill to you, me and a friend played, the game lasted ages and was very close. One point I was winning, then he came back, then he was winning and I came back etc.

Fourthly, the game types. I prefer UT3's capture the flag to any other FPS' CTF, it does help if you had AI's with a brain on your side which can frustrate you into going on a one man mission but they certainly do their work as backup, cover fire and generally as shields. Warfare, strange one, a frustrating one but certainly a game where a losing side can get the upper hand at the last 2 minutes or so. Makes you think strategies rather than rushing straight in. Deathmatch, team deathmatch and duel are the same old same old really and UT3 does offer vehicle CTF rather than bunging behicles in the CTF games

Lastly UT3 for the PS3 is the first to allow user mods to be transferred and compatible. You can customise your character with several different armours and helmets or download and install new character models (I currently have Spawn )

All in all, it is at least worth playing. Rent it and if you like it then maybe buy it

actually i cant get enough of this game! its a little limited if you have no mods or anything, but once you get all the great ones, like multi-team deathmatch, with up to four teams, or 2D UT, which is like a side scroller, it really livens up the gameplay! of course, i needed a flash drive to import them to my ps3 :/ but those arent really expensive ($12 at best buy)

hells yeah. i love it. if you dont have mods it get boring. but with mods it rules. also make sure to get titan expansion pack on psn. its free and makes the game a little funner.
