I've seen it all over the internet about pressing the ~ tilda key to access the console. When I press mine I get nothing. I am playing this on a brand new dell studio laptop. Any ideas or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thankyou and happy new year to all! -john

Where are you from? ¬ opens the console on European keyboards.

does your screen still change a bit when u press the ~ key
casue for me with all settings on high the console is off the screen and i cant se it intill i near the end of the line of command

but i just make shure to do it all correctly the first time

Im from the united states and am currently touring it due to the fact that I am an over the road trucker for crete carrier corp. Defcon1, I tried setting everything on high but didn't notice any change in the screen when I hit the ~ key. I even typed in some of the codes to see if the console was there and if it was the same situation with my pc like yours. But it wasn't. Thankyou for the replies. I will check back in a day or two to see if anyone else has any ideas about my current situation. Miller I'm rather pc illiterate but I looked for that key on my keyboard and didn't find it. well the first sign that your console is working is if when u hit the "~" key that your screen changes a bit but not much

Miller the BAllowConsole value was at one when I opened the ini. file like the info in the link you sent me. (It was very informative and interesting!) Thankyou for sending it to me! My next question is since the value is already at one and I still can't access the console what would be the next best value to set it at? I know I could just start putting in random values but that would be comparable to me fumbling around in an unfamiliar dark room looking for a light switch. Clumsy as I am I'd wreck the whole darn room before finding it. So I think it best to ask your opinion on what values to try next. I will be away from my truck for about an hour but will check to see if you have replied by the time I get back. If not I will check back tomorrow when I have the time. defcon1, I understand what you mean by saying dodgy about your console starting off screen. In my case it's playing hide and seek with me while stone walling me at the same time! Thanks for the shout! I need to step out of the truck for a bit. -john

Depending on your screen resolution your prompt may appear offscreen. There is an ini file oyu can edit to change this. You can get details at The Vault (search for that and fallout 3, you'll find it).

Also, if your on Vista, try diabling your eHome infrared keyboard/ controler under the USB area of your system devices. If you can;t fid that look under the HID area and see if oyu have any infrared devices there and disable/uninstall them. Some wierd crap where this driver remapps some keys, including the ~ key.

Im haveing the exact same problem

You should get something like this ... I typed some garbage after you get the type start bit 'l' which gave my the message you see above the l.

My monitor autosizes my picture to fit the monitor so I always get the full picture. There is probably an option somewhere to autosize -fit or not. The 'l' is way down in the corner as you can see.

Im having the same problem nothing happens when i press any of the keys that is suppose too open the console try every single one. Im from sweden if thats helps with what keys too press on the keyboard. Should i change anything in any ini file or config files?

Does pressing the button change ANYTHING in the game at all?

cause I have a similiar problem, but that is because my console text is out of my screen (for some reason!)

so it could be that problem as well, however I can still type in commands, and pressing the button freezes the game and removes the hud, so if that is happening you have the same problem as I do!

It's because you have a controller plugged into the computer.

Unplug the controller and you will be able to bring up the console command
