Title Update 4 |

It's practically been confirmed on the Epic Forums, but since it's not official, I won't link to possibly misleading information.
I made this thread to discuss the changes that are being discussed by one of the designers -JoeGraf, who apparently wants to "fix" the game. Some of these changes are rumored to be:

I only ever play Horde mode anyway, so this would probably be an improvement. Though I don't know or care what the significance of the number is beside the name anyway. This game is on its last legs for me and will likely be traded in for Ghostbusters in a couple weeks, so meh.

The ammo crates on Wingman make it soooooo much fairer, it's just a question of who spawns in the stronger position then, not who spawns be the power weapon. Experience points for Horde is bullshit (Maybe if it's on Insane you should get a bit every 10 waves). The smoke grenade is one of the default 'weapons' of a COG so it shouldn't be all that great. I still wouldn't mind it if it had no stun whatsoever, but when somebody triggered it it made the beeping noise to alert you.
I much prefer this game to Gears 1 now, but I still despise the way the smoke grenade was upon release and the Wingman thing does make a lot of sense. ------------------- ![]() | |

Horde thing will be fine as long as its separate experience.
For Wingman it should depend on the level because power weapons should stay if everyone has an equal chance of getting them. It would be so boring with no power weapons whatsoever. The smoke should do what it's supposed to do, it still stuns you when you're walking or standing still which seems even more annoying than before. It should actually provide enough smoke to be used as a SMOKE grenade and not a STUN grenade. -------------------

Changes huh? well I only ever play multiplayer battles and horde mode but changes don't exactly make sense. I think the EXP concept on horde might work but only for beginner players, think of it as a one time special, of course I'm not one myself but the EXP system might have to be explained more until criticism can take place, as for the smoke grenades; they are smoke grenades not flash or fragmentation grenades, a knock back is uneeded and might as well be removed it porvides the same effect as a standard COG grenade.

Wingman thing is a good idea. Wingman blows because the spawns are so close together and you MIGHT get lucky enough to be close to a power weapon.
Giving EXP for Horde is awesome. I don't play the multiplayer because it sucks so getting EXP for Horde would help me out. It wouldn't ruin the matchmaking system, because it's already ruined. Everyone has been complaining about the smoke grenade downing peolpe since the beginning. They do need to take it out. This isn't going to make gears 2 exactly like Gears 1. Playing against AI is hardly 'Experience' though, that's like saying you should get experience for playing Private games.

They should make custom playlists where you can friendly fire and you only spawn with shotgun. That would be a nice update.

quote UnityFriendly fire causes more problems then it solves, you'd have the same problem with Halo 3, some wanker decides to betray someone for the hell of it, you either get killed or kill your ally whilst fighting off locust, only to loose points. On the other hand if a player is dicking around you can simply give him a quick lesson but ultimately I think it would be a bad idea. If a player is being difficult then he or she can be kicked from the playlist, so what exactly is the point having the ability to kill your own allies, it just seems pointless This message was edited by RobbHimself on Jun 05 2009. | |

Epic have confirmed that the TU4 will do nothing about helping lag issues. They say they are going to look at how the matchmaking chooses a host so that maybe it's fairer for everybody, but I can't see that helping.
