Due to an idea given to me by Black_Shadow_93. I decided to make a thread to find out what weapon people prefer to use in L4D.

That includes every weapon, not just the 3 you find during a campaign.

I'll give a list of Pros & Cons of each weapon.

Hunting Rifle isn't too hot against a tank either.


Anyways...

If I am going second and I know there WILL be a tank. I always go auto shotgun. Also Auto shotgun actually isn't so bad in range, its got a pretty good range on it but of course its not the best and least wanted to be used there. I also take it if I know theres a witch incase we need to crown or at least TRY to crown it. (I've done it about 9 times out of a total of 15 tries. I mostly just don't like to risk it and be the 'weak link' if I fail and am incapped[or killed due to bad teammates not reacting fast OR teammates being ambushed and not being able to take the witch down])

I always use the sniper rifle when I'm in campaign though. Special infected in campaign aren't too bright, I suck at shooting smokers at a distance and essentially its like a cake walk on Normal difficulty (compared dto Versus in most cases -in most, sometimes Normal dif is harder lol-)

I tend to go mostly though for the Assault Rifle and my reasoning (this is in versus only) is that I can't shoot smokers ever with the auto shotgun (even though I know many that can / do, I always fail) and the sniper rifle is horrid to do damage fast to the tank. Its not BAD but its by far the worst and tanks don't tend to go far away from you, they tend to get in your face. With 6000 life, you need to take it down fast.


I'd say it goes about like this (roughly)

Campaign:
Sniper Rifle - 75%
Auto Shotgun - 20%
Assault Rifle - 5%

Versus:
Sniper Rifle - 1%
Auto Shotgun - 40%
Assault Rifle - 59%

I just can't risk using the sniper rifle when a tank may come. Assault Rifle is mostly used because I tend to find I can't hit smokers with shotgun or pistols well. So I go for that. In campaign its much less action packed (I swear I could've stopped and ate a sandwich and still beaten no mercy with a medkit after playing versus so much and expecting enemies at spots where they weren't ever going lol) and I like to be more percise and I tend to use the pistols more. Mostly why I don't use the pistols in versus is I want to be able to kill the special infected fast and pistols DON'T do massive damage. You gotta be able to kil lfast to not risk your teammates slowing down, etc.. Whereas in campaign its most likely the special infected won't hit you too hard unless you have really bad teammates.




Also I wouldn't mind hearing others opinions on the Uzi, Pump shotgun and pistols either. So I'll add my below as well.

Campaign:
Pump Shotgun: 99%
Uzi: 1%

Versus:
Pump Shotgun: 30%
Uzi: 70%

Reason being here is I prefer the pump shotgun, I will use pistols mostly in campaign to begin with. In Versus you gotta be fast and getting the smoker can be the most cruical part so the uzi is like an automatic pistol if used right instead of spray and pray. So I tend to go for it mostly in versus. Only exception is if I know a tank is coming I tend to switch to pump shotgun cause the same thing with auto shotgun, tanks tend to get close and I rather pump shells into them then use all my ammo and hope it does good damage. lol


To divludge into the pistols a bit more. I never use them unless I have to reload with the uzi when I only have one (that being said, I mean if my friend is being smoked dor something. I tend to try to kill the smoker first in versus and then slap them if failed since that means one less infected to worry about and most cases thats what we ALL do, first try to kill then go for it. Hunters we knock off fast and then kill but smokers don't do massive damage.) but when I have two I tend to use it alot more until I get second tier weapons, why? Because in versus mode you tend to need to kill fast and damage wise all second teir easily outclass dual pistols. In campaign I use dual pistols the most cause I tend to go sniper rifle most and thats mostly goo for special infected at a distance or clearing areas. Whereas the pistols are your crowd control in a way. If it wasn't for versus being so fast paced in comparison to campaign. I'd probably end up using my pistols much much more in versus mode but seeing as that won't happen. The primary weapon is best. I do use the pistols to shoot distance if I went auto shotgun though in versus and when shooting enemies around a friend I tend to switch to pistols cause they are more accurate then ANYTHING unless you are scoping in on each enemy with the sniper rifle.

As its ONE bullet at a time and not automatic, which risks killing the enemy and shooting your partner. As well as its not spread damage (shotguns) and the sniper rifle can be accurate but its best use is with the scope at distances.

I hate the Hunting Rifle. /francis

I prefer the auto shotty, it's the best for crowd control since Infected get up close and personal. I do switch to Assault Rifle for set occasions, like the Jesus rock on Death Toll, taking care of the smoker.

I usually go with the weapon that the other friends/AI aren't using.

With AI I usually take the AS. Since AI Zoey always takes the HR, and the AI Bill & Louis take the AR. So that leaves me (Francis) with the AS.

But with friends my decision depends entirely on what they pick. None of my friends seem to use the HR. So I go with that.

Usually me & Black_Shadow try out different formations such as 2 AR's, an AS & a HR. It seems to work from time to time.

When I start on expert I ALWAYS go for the PS. Uzi doesn't seem powerful enough to push the infected back. And my friends usually take the Uzi anyway. :L

I love the auto shotty. It's really the only thing I use - that and the pump shotty for when there are no new weapons. I very rarely use the Uzi or assault rifle. I find myself using a Sniper more often. It sucks for anything close combat (unless you're really good with aiming it) but it's great for the Tank, since you can keep your distance and still do a ton of damage. Plus it helps out a lot for Smokers and other infected. I can't even remember the last time I used an Uzi/assault rifle.

Got to agree with that. I much prefer the assault rifle, or dual pistols.

I just like the accuracy you get with both, and the unlimited ammo with the pistols is a bonus.

In most of my games i end up using the Uzi and then hunting rifle when it becomes available.

I just can't stand how slow the pump shotgun is, like if there is a hunter or smoker right in my face i can just spray the uzi at it until it dies. That, and the shotgun is a one hit incapacitate if you accidently ff with it on expert.

I also like the one shot kill on most infected that comes with the Hunting Rifle. I used to use the Assault Rifle a lot, but i kept running out of ammo.
I do like the auto shotgun, but i much prefer the super range of the HR.

The Auto shotty is my favorite weapon and because it doesn't have a fast firing range it doesn't matter that it has the least ammo and even if you fire constantly with the auto shotgun and constantly with the assault rifle the auto shotgun will last longer.

Dual pistols are *bleep*ing awesome. On the easier difficulties mind.

Otherwise I like the Assault Rifle and Auto Shotgun.
