We've seen the list of nominees for video games worth awarding at year's GDC, as judged by game developers themselves.  Now the votes are tallied, and in the end one game emerged from the dust to claim the grand prize of Game of the Year: Fallout 3.  Bethesda's sci-fi RPG also walked away with another honor for best writing in a video game.  Meanwhile, Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet snapped up a few awards of its own including best game design, technology, innovation, and debut.  Fellow developers were indeed sold on the concept and potential of the PS3 puzzle platformer, powered by user generated content.

    Best writing ? In Fallout 3?? I wonder if any of the people voting on the game actually played it.

    The writing was just okay -- it wasn't the best written game of the year, IMHO.

    Just proves that the judges know how to use google.
    If Fallout 3 was the game of the year, then it was a really weak year

    My thoughts exactly, but when you think of the competition though...(LBP, GTA, CoD, PoP etc) It probably did have the best writing! ^^;

    Totally Dave!

    In fact, many reviewers remarked how not-so-great the dialogue was in the game. Not even to mention how much of a let down the ending was, and the main plot.

    A couple of games easily had superior game writing in 2008. There's no justice.

    We should lead a torch riot to Bethesda's offices.
    I'd take the PoP dialogue over the Fallout 3 dialogue any day, based on what I know. Glad Dead Space got Best Audio though, it totally deserved it. CRUNNNCCHHHH.

    I am disappointed in the fact that nobody nominated MGS4 for ANYTHING. It had some of the best technology, scriptwriting, gameplay, and game design out there; yet it doesn't even get a mention.

    FO3 on the other hand, half the time I could have cared less for the global plot. I imagine half of us are the same. A travesty.

    Dear god no. MGS4's writing was the biggest fan wank fest I have ever seen! Sure, FO3 didn't have the greatest writing, ok it sucked, but at least I could get into it without having to have played the other ones first. Not to mention even having played some of the other MGS games, I have no *bleep*ing clue what is going on in those games half the time.

    A story doesn't have to be simple-minded to be enjoyable. MGS actually made us think for once, instead of just running through guns blazing. I thought people could appreciate a little sophistication in writing; guess not.
