The Spore franchise couldn't have found a more appropriate platform for its evolutionary shenanigans -- the Nintendo Wii and DS. EA Maxis have announced the upcoming release of Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena for the home and handheld consoles, respectively, due some time in Fall 2009.
“When Maxis first considered bringing Spore to console players, the Nintendo platforms jumped out as a perfect fit. Whether it is the stylus-driven action of the Nintendo DS or playful controllers of the Wii, the massive Nintendo audience is the ideal home for Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena,”said Lucy Bradshaw, VP and General Manager at Maxis. “Nintendo fans will love the humor, ability to create their own Hero, fun gameplay and immersive storylines we’re creating for these two games.”
In Spore Hero for the Wii, players will be creating their own Hero to take on a quest to save their new home world from destruction at the hands of forces beyond the planet. You'll be engaging in combat with your Hero, taking on humorous missions and puzzles, among other amusing occurrences. As you progress, you'll be able to collect over 250 parts and abilities, which can then be used in the Spore Creature Creator.
For DS, we have Spore Hero Arena, which takes players into a 3D galaxy environment where they'll be taking part in arena-based combat. Create a unique Hero creature and guide it from planet to planet, picking fights with dangerous foes, completing special missions, collecting upgrades, new parts and abilities along the way. You can even play with a friend via Wi-Fi.
In anticipation of these autumn Spore titles, EA Maxis released some new screenshots for each version, and a whimsical little trailer for your enjoyment.
